I've been using open source (GNU/Linux, to be specific) more or less exclusively since september 2002, and have never looked back to the dark ages of personal computing.
The glider shown here was proposed as the universal hacker emblem by Eric Raymond, perhaps best known as the author of The Cathedral & the Bazaar. I like the emblem because it'simple and effective; but Eric's justification includes some other reasons to use it.
Actually, I'm not much of a hacker, but I definitely qualify as a linux zealot. I wouldn't go so far as calling myself a guru, but there are friends of mine who differ. I do know a good deal about Gentoo, which has been my operating system of choice – insomuch as it is an operating system – since the fall of 2002.
